RUSIZI - An 11-year boy from Nkanka sector in Rusizi district was seriously injured by a grenade he picked up while collecting firewood on Saturday, security officials said.

According to local officials, David Tuyishime, picked up the stick grenade and detonated it on a tree.

‘At around 10:35 a.m., we heard a blast like that of a gun shot,’ one of the local leaders said.  "When we rushed at the scene we found Tuyishime lying unconsciously in a pool of blood.’

Security authorities advised parents to train their children not to pick up strange objects.
