MUHANGA - The Minister of Local Government, Christophe Bazivamo, has cautioned Kigali City Council leaders against corruption, saying it discourages investors.
Bazivamo made the remarks last weekend while opening a two-day retreat for city leaders held at RIAM training centre in Muhanga District.
The retreat is expected to analyse the problems affecting the city leadership and set new strategies to improve the quality of service delivery.
The minister noted that some local leaders in the districts surrounding and within Kigali city have been reported to be poor at delivering services and also being involved in corruption tendencies especially in issuing out of tenders and land titles.
"The retreat should be used as a chance to correct such shortcomings. We must see to it that we improve on how we undertake our service delivery within our working sites within local Government,” he said.
"Local government duties are not easy but discipline should be cultivated among workers in order to perform to the expected standards,” the minister added.
"Kigali is the heart of the country and that means the performance expectations are high and each one should take a personal initiative for the purposes of being exemplary and portray the true image of leadership in implementing government programs,” he said.
Dr. Aisha Kirabo, the Kigali City Mayor, expressed hope that after the retreat workers would be more productive and motivated.
