Reading The New Times issue that ran yesterday, I was left wondering whether the United Nations mission to the Eastern Congo, which happens to be the biggest and most expensive UN Peacekeeping mission in the world, is doing its job as a neutral arbitrator.

According to the story published, two doctors facilitated by some officials of the UN mission in DR Congo (MONUC) entered the Congolese jungles to treat ailing FDLR commander Maj. Gen. Sylvestre Mudacumura
I’ve always assumed that a peacekeeping mission is supposed to ‘keep’ the peace, but now it seems that MONUC is keeping the ‘war’.

Why else would they facilitate the medical evacuation of the military head of a terrorist organisation? Its certainly not to keep the peace.

The fact that I haven’t heard an official response from the UN Security Council is an indictment to the entire UN system and not only MONUC.

I believe that it would be best if there would be an independent investigation in these allegations.
