RWAMAGANA — Rwanda Labour Party (PSL) will not field any candidate in next year’s presidential elections. The party’s secretary, Emanuel Gatare said.

During a one-day civic education workshop in Rwamagana for its members last week, Gatare advised the party faithful to get focused on mature politics, adding that their party believes in embracing what he termed as a careful process within the political field. 

"We are not rushing into politics; our party suffered a lot in the past political turmoil. Time will come when we shall field a candidate, he said. "Leading a country is not easy-you need what I call some sort of sustainable strength and maturity to do so.”

MP Jean Bosco Rucibigango, the party leader, said their over all intention, was to make Rwandans understand the dynamics of democratic elections. 

"We want Rwandans and of course members of our party in particular, to understand what democracy is all about. A country risks chaos when people go for elections with a lot of ignorance. The ignorance would lead to activities that contradict our call for the rule of law,” he said. 

Vincent Sewinkwavu, a party member, said the training equipped them with values which are important to avoid trouble during in elections. 

PSL is the first party to reveal that it will not field any presidential candidate in next year’s presidential elections.
