About 270 youth from Kicukiro, Gasabo and Nyarugenge districts were this week urged to learn more about trauma recovery, since it’s a big problem in a country like Rwanda given the effects of the 1994 Genocide.

Jane Abatoni, the head of Rwanda Association in Trauma Counselling (ARCT Ruhuka) told participants that it was their duty to help traumatised people.

Abatoni, said this while closing the training dubbed "Acquiring fundamental trauma recovering skills” in Nyarugenge District

ARCT Ruhuka is a local Non- Governmental Organization working with Kigali City Council to train people in trauma recovering skills.

According to the association’s head, the NGO also teaches youths in health matters, conflict resolution, HIV /Aids and psychology among other things. The youth were trained on how they can help people during the annual Genocide commemoration in April.

The training was organized by KCC in partnership with Colledet, an international NGO.

Brigitte Mukarunyana, the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs in KCC urged the youths to always be responsible and reach people who have trauma problems. She revealed that statistics of people who have face trauma are going down day by day.

Elias Sedege, who spoke on behalf of the trainees, hailed the NGO and KCC for the training.
