The East African Community (EAC) week ends today with several activities lined up to mark its closure. The week, that started last Saturday with a community service - Umuganda, was aimed at celebrating 10 years since the signing of the treaty for the resurrection of the EAC in November 1999.

The week, that started last Saturday with a community service - Umuganda, was aimed at celebrating 10 years since the signing of the treaty for the resurrection of the EAC in November 1999.
According to Robert Ssali, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs, the population will this morning participate in a match scheduled to begin from Amahoro national stadium to cross through Kibagabaga, Nyarutarama, Gishushu and back to the stadium.
Ssali added that at the end of the day, participants will be treated to a free music Gala that will attract a number of Rwanda musicians.
"The EAC week opened our eyes given the several questions people asked about the EAC. Many have heard about it, but they mostly want to know the benefits in joining the EAC,” Ssali said.
He called on the media and the civil society organizations to add their efforts in popularizing Rwanda’s gains in entering the regional bloc, which comprises of four other partner states.
The EAC week is also being observed by the other four partner states, with celebrations to be held later this month in Arusha, Tanzania.
A symposium has been organized to take place next week in Arusha, and this will highlight the achievements of the EAC during to date.
