Fourteen civil servants from different public institutions are expected to leave for Japan towards the end of this month for a technical training programme.

The candidates were selected from institutions like the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), Workforce Development Authority (WDA), and National Forestry Authority.

They are expected to undergo the training for three weeks in different areas including education, environment and forestry management.

One of them is Adrien Uwamahoro from Kigali Institute of Science and Technology who will be going on a two-year Masters’ programme.

In an interview, Uwamahoro, who works in the Civil Engineering department at KIST, said he was happy to have been selected out of the three candidates who had been selected to compete for the course. 

This initiative is supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Speaking to New Times, the Programme Officer in JICA, Kayo Yamada said; "So far, about 200 Rwandans have benefited from the programme since 1978.

According to the official, Japanese assistance is mainly in areas of human resource development, rural development, economic infrastructure and industrial development.

Meanwhile, Japanese volunteers are expected in the country to provide expertise in areas of education, rural economic development, health and ICT.
