Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) schools’ cricket development program has been boosted with cricket equipment from Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB).
The UK based charity organization, dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the World through the game of cricket.
A five-man team from the organization led by Ed Williams (tour manager), Andy Hobbs (head of cricket development at Sussex country Cricket club), Chris Kangis (coach) and two volunteers Paul Daniels and Nick Lowles, was in the country for a week-long tour, they departed on Monday.
Since their arrival on November 10, the five men conducted a coaches’ clinic for local traimners, which attracted over 60 participants and at the end of the clinic, twelve participants were awarded ICC Introductory coaches’ certificates.
And Ed Williams, ueged the coaches who benifited from the course to pass on the acquired knowledge to other locals through carrying out similar clinics.
‘We recommend RCA to make great use of these coaches.
They should be sent to different primary and secondary schools to pass on what they have learnt to the rest.
At the end of the day, Rwanda will have more locals playing the game,’ Ed Williams noted.
Emma Byiringiro, one of RCA’s schools development officer is also impressed with CWB’s contribution.
‘They have laid a very good foundation for schools cricket and it’s now up to us to take it from here,’ Byiringiro says.
CWB is committed to taking the game of cricket to a new generation of coaches and children espceially in schools.
