The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Commissioner Celestin Musabyimana told Times Sport yesterday that he would love to see Rwanda in the draws.
"I will leave for Luanda on November 15 and I would love to see Rwanda as one of the countries involved in the draws,” he said.
"Right now, the rights to play in Angola rest on the Amavubi team. They know exactly what they need to do to qualify.”
The draws will be graced by CAF President Issa Hayatou and the entire CAF executive.
Host nation Angola will be one of the seeded teams for the championship.
Other teams who have qualified for the tournament are Cameroon, Gabon, Tunisia, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Benin, while the other qualifiers will be decided on the final day of action on November 15.
According to Musabyimana, the yardstick for seeding teams is their performance over the last three Nations Cup tournaments.
Te 16 finalists will be divided into four groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify to compete in the knock-out stages, winners will qualify to play in the quarters-finals, then the semi-finals, before the final.
Next year’s CAN edition will run from January 10-31 and will be played in four venues: Luanda, Cabinda, Benguela and Lobango.
Egypt won the last competition to seal a sixth record title: 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006 and 2008.
