ORDINARY level and Advanced  level exams kicked off smoothly within different exam centres yesterday.
In Rulindo District, the Director of Education, Diogène Bitunguramye said a total of 2,630 candidates were expected to sit for the examinations from 10 centres in the entire district.

"Advanced Level candidates are sitting their exams from Rutongo, Stella Matutina and Nyamugali secondary schools, while the Ordinary Level candidates are taking  their exams in the remaining other centres,”, said Bitunguramye, adding that the examinations were going on well and started on time. 

In Gicumbi District, the Director of Education, Deogratias Mwanafunzi said nine exam centres were created. A total of 3,608 candidates were expected to take the exams in the entire district.

At GS APAPEB and GS de la Salle examination centres which The New Times visited, candidates reported as early as 7.30 a.m.

Exam supervisors took their time to verify candidate’s examination registration forms, identity cards and ensured no candidates entered the exam room with mobile phones.  

Rwamagana

In Rwamagana District, the headmaster of Rwamagana Secondary School, Everest Banzubaze, expressed optimism about students recording sterling performance.

"We had enough teaching and pre-testing exercise before this day. I am thus optimistic that the candidates will perform well,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Kayonza District, an examination official, Anet Mbabazi, said there were few candidates who had missed the examinations as information was still trickling in.

Musanze

In Musanze District, examination invigilators noted that students were peaceful, with no reported cases of impersonation and cheating.

Fidèle Nzigira, the district education officer, said all students, including private candidates were well prepared, and all the initial set of  papers meant to be done started on time.

According to a report from the district education office, a total of 4,247 students in Musanze District sat for the exams.

1,028 private candidates sat for the A-Level exams, under strict supervision by police, and external supervisors. The number of private candidates was reportedly higher than that of last year.

All the candidates were writing their exams in French, "The instructions allow every one to use either French or English,’’ one of the O-Level students said after the first exam.

According to Nzigira, the number of students, in the district reduced compared to the previous year, unlike in the primary leaving exams where the number of pupils was far higher compared to last year.
