"Basing on the weight of the crime, it is possible that investigations may be jeopardised or the suspects might even escape justice.The court therefore rules that the suspects be detained to enable the court summon them every time they are needed,” the presiding judge, Jean Damascene Gasana , read the pre-trial detention verdict, yesterday.
The five district officials include; the district’s Executive Secretary, Felix Kabandana and members of the Procurement Committee; Musirikare Mihigo Amandin, Rwigyema Ferdinand, Habineza Germain and Umubyeyi Georgette.
He said that the suspects knowingly awarded a tender worth Rwf 222m to supply firewood and cooking oil to Remera Government Prison without competitive bidding.
Reliable sources at the National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) say investigations are still ongoing to establish whether Gasabo Mayor, Claudine Nyinawagaga was involved.
