The second edition of the annual Kids’ football championship league started yesterday at Amahoro stadium. The tournament pitches14 teen teams from around Kigali city.

The competition is scheduled to end on December 15 after a whole month of tough matches between Kigali’s most organized teen teams.

The league is sponsored by Esperance de Remera Fc and Amahoro Great Lakes under the theme of "Youths we fight HIV/AIDS through playing football.

According to the organizer of the competition Jean Pierre Kalisa, Rayol Sport Vice coach, competition and performance is expected to be high because many of the coaches were trained by the federation.

"We expect them to play well compared to the previous edition. Because they have enough time to prepare for the event,” Kalisa said.

Ten teen teams participated in the inaugural edition in 2006.

The competition was officiated by, among others, Ferwafa’s Alloys Kanamugire, the local leaders, and some players in the country’s outstanding clubs APR and Rayol Sport.

"You should like what you play, that is football, and you should have discipline so that you can join clubs like we play for. And you have chance to play in the national team, Amavubi,” said Hegman Ngomirakiza and Jamal Mwiseneza while advising the teens on what can develop them in to good players.

Hegman Ngomirakiza is a mid fielder in APR while Jamal Mwiseneza is a stricker in the country’s oldest football club, Rayol Sport Fc.

The 7-9 year olds, technically called Poussain, play the whole pitch for each half lasting for 25 minutes.

Teams have been grouped in four groups made of six teams each.

Group A is made up of FC Moon A, Daydream B, Bandrouge B, Esperance B, IYF and Don Bosco B while Esperance A, Lion de Busanza, Bandrouge A, St. Partrick, Don Bosco A and A.C Luron A are in grouped B.

Group C has Bandrouge A, Unity, Amahoro Grand Lac A, Foundation Kabeza B, Luron B and Esperance B while in Group D are Amahoro Grand Lac B, Fondation Busanza, Eagle Sport Gikondo, St. Patrick, Fondation Kabeza A and E sperance C.
