BUGESERA - The Governor of the Eastern Province, Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, has cautioned returnees who were resettled in Bugesera District against selling their newly acquired houses.

The governor said this at the weekend, while addressing Rwandans who were recently chased from Tanzania.

There are 300 families who were resettled in Rweru sector. 
According to local leaders, scores of returnees in the district are selling their property at give away prices, to return to Tanzania. 

The governor castigated such practice, pointing out that it was not only illegal, but also dangerous for them. 

"I warn you…what you are doing is not acceptable by the government, and is a great disservice to you. If you go back to those bushes in Tanzania, you will encounter harsher conditions than you left,” he said. 

The residents argued that they were jobless and appealed to the government for help.

However, Kabaija advised them to form cooperatives, through which they can be financed to start income generating projects. 

Meanwhile, the governor later met local leaders over classroom construction in the district. 

The Mayor, Louis Rwagaju, expressed optimism, saying they would beat the November deadline. 

"Most of the classes are about to be finished, so we have no reason to worry,” he said. 

The governor wondered why richer sectors in the district like Nyamata, are still far behind from completing the construction work. 

"Nyamata has no reason to lag behind in the ongoing classroom constructions. You know you are the richest sector in the district…why don’t you finish before the rest,” he said.
