Long time ago, there was a fisherman who was called Bayo. He was hard working but he could not get enough fish to sell and get lots of money. Most of the time Bayo stayed by the shores of the lake hoping to get big catches but nothing came of it.
He thought of an idea about shifting to another country, Bayo left his home land and went to live in that new country. When he reached there, he got a lot of fish through fishing work; he sold fish and became very rich and prosperous.
As a result the king of that land liked Bayo very much such that he decided to give him the princess as his bride. He married the king’s daughter, and they produced many children, now Bayo had become a very important person, and there were very many people who knew him throughout the kingdom.
Within the kingdom, there was a culture whereby if a wife died; she would be buried with her husband. A lot of food was put in the tomb so that the husband of the dead wife would be feed on that for some time. When the food got finished, the husband would eventually die of hunger.
Unfortunately, Bayo’s wife fell sick and died of illness. Just as the culture of that country required, Bayo was buried with his wife in a tunnel.
A few days later, a hyena came looking for some thing to eat, it came across the tomb of the princess, who was Bayo’s wife and ate her dead body. Next day, the hyena came back to look for some thing eat and found Bayo lying down.
When it tried to sniff Bayo, he stood up and pretended to bark like a dog, ho, ho, ho, ho. When the hyena heard the backing, it ran away very fast and out of the tunnel. Bayo chased after it through the tunnel until the hyena reached the main land, but this time in another new land.
He started a new life since he didn’t have any thing or any money on him, but because he was a professional fisher man, he went to the lake, and started fishing once again. He became rich and married another wife in the new land.
After some time, Bayo thought of going back to visit his children whose mother was a princess and had died. He asked his new wife to go with him.
They started their journey until they got to the king’s palace. When he reached the place, he introduced himself to the king as Bayo, and that he had come to see his children.
They were surprised and asked if he really was the one. He told them to bring the children, and when the children were brought in, it was discovered that they actually resemble. They were extremely happy about Bayo’s return, and the king decided to give him another bride (Umugeni).
They feasted with Bayo who happily resettled in the new land with his two wives and continued working as a fisher man.
