Police and other stakeholders have discussed mechanisms of setting up a national early warning system, in the event of disasters to help save lives and property.

Speaking during the meeting, William Ngabo of Africa Mission Alliance highlighted that early warning systems are important to save lives.

He said that to be effective, early warning systems require four elements that include risk knowledge, monitoring, warning service, dissemination and communication.

The meeting was the third and aims at coming up with a draft bill that will eventually be tabled in parliament on efficient disaster management systems in the country.

Chief Superintendent of Police, Damas Gatare, the Coordinator at the Disaster Management Center (DMC), pointed out several setbacks to efficient disaster management that include a low budget and equipment for the emergency.
