The Social Security Fund of Rwanda (SSFR), yesterday, unveiled a draft master plan for the development of an estate in Gaculiro,   Gasabo district that is expected to have an estimated 2600 housing units.

Henry Gaperi, the Director General of CSR, disclosed that 2,600 units will have all the necessary amenities within reach.

"On top of residential houses, we are going to build hospitals, nursery schools, markets, roads and other infrastructures,” he disclosed.

He revealed that they were still undergoing negotiations with government to see how infrastructures like road network, electricity and sewerage systems can be put in place to make the units affordable once they are completed.

In the presentations, Oscar Onguto, an architect with Kenyan firm Lexicon Designs, revealed that the 2,600 units will include 100 luxurious villas, 200 semi-luxurious and 325 semi detached units.

He added that they will also have apartments ranging from two to four bedrooms.

Gaperi said that the aim of the mass urbanization is to avail Rwandans with safe housing.

"We will work with banks to help Rwandans access the houses,” he said.

He estimated that the construction is going to be done on 150 hectares likely to start in December this year and end within a period of four years.

The pensions body is one of the biggest investors in real estate in Kigali City for both residential and office premises.
