Mukura Victory Sports put up an impressive away performance on Sunday, November 20, as they held Rayon Sports to a 2-2 draw at the Kigali Stadium.
It was a cagey game with Rayon Sports taking control in the first 15 minutes.
Rayon's dominance yielded dividends in the 26th minute as striker Moussa Camara flicked a delightful ball into the net with his head for the opener.
The goal for Rayon seemed to have charged Mukura as they came strongly into the game but hosts’ defender Isaac Mitima remained a major stumbling block for the visitors who were pushing for an equalizer.
Chances were far and few at both ends after the goal with action being generally centered in midfield until the referee blew his whistle with Rayon leading 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw Mukura stepping up their game as Blues were pinned to their own half.
Striker Robert Mukoghotya restored parity for Mukura with a fierce long range free kick from 35 yards in the 49th minute.
The Ugandan, who was a torn in the flesh of the Rayon Sports’ defense with his long range drives, scored his second goal of the game after 60 minutes, through a spectacular effort from 30 yards after receiving a pass from midfield.
With defeat staring at their faces, Rayon coach Francis Harigingo brought on Felix Ndekwe to add more bite to their attack.
The Blues pushed for an equalizer with a high pressing football which led to a penalty which Leandre Onana converted in the 79th minute to bring the scores level.
Mukura piled more pressure on Rayon Sports in the final ten minutes of the game in an effort to snatch a late winner but Francis Haringingo’s men were tight at the back while their attack also pushed for a last-minute winner to pose drama inside Kigali Stadium, only for both sides to end the match with a draw.
Elsewhere, Police’s Musa Omar scored the only goal of the game after just seven minutes as the visitors beat Espoir in Rusizi to move fourth on the league table with 17 points and go behind third-placed APR FC by goal difference.
The military side face table leaders SC Kiyovu on Wednesday in a game that will prove how ready the Green Baggies are for this season’s title credentials.
