GICUMBI- CISCO Networking Academy senior officials have promised to promote information technology (IT) among residents and various government and private employees in Gicumbi District.

The officials made the pledge while visiting 14 students currently studying basics of IT at Gicumbi Community Telecenter. 

Addressing the students, the CISCO area academy manager, Hital Muraj said more advanced courses will be provided to students who have completed the first two months of the course.

"You are the resources of your country, which is why much effort should be invested in equipping you with IT skills so that you can provide skilled labor in your various careers,” said Muraj.

She called on the students to pass on the skills acquired to others in their respective work places. 

CISCO associate technical Manager for Europe and Emerging markets, Gabriel Fuster urged students to put more  emphasis on practical skills during their studies.

"Practicals enable you to fully understand the various components that make up the IT studies. This shall in turn equip you with the needed skills to maintain and assemble computers,” said Fuster. 

Gicumbi community Telecenter manager Donata Uwamaria Butere said the Telecenter has so far trained 10 students in IT essentials.

"The students are enthusiastic to acquire more knowledge in IT, which is why there is need for more equipment to facilitate practical training at our Telecenter,” she said.

Present were the National University of Rwanda (NUR) CISCO Regional Manager, Patrick Alain Ndatimana and Gicumbi Telecenter CISCO training officer Jean Aime Senturo.
