Twenty-four year old Vincent Kagenza, a kidney patient, has called on the public to help raise Rwf 13 million to facilitate his treatment in India.

While narrating his ordeal to The New Times, Kageza said that he was diagnosed with kidney problems in 2007 after various signs that include swelling of feet and legs among others.

"I was referred to King Faisal Hospital after continuous treatment that I had received in both Nyagatare and Kanombe hospitals. This is when it was established that I must acquire a kidney transplant in India as it can not be done here.

"The good news is that my brother has been confirmed as a potential donor based on various medical results. The major problem at hand however is that my family can not raise the required sum of money and I request everyone to contribute to this cause and save my life,” Kagenza pleaded.

With the same aim of raising these funds, Old Students of the former Rwanda International Academy (now Kagarama Secondary School) have already started to donate towards this need.

They send funds to Kageza’s account number (043163015974) at any of the Kenya Commercial Bank branches.

John Mandela, also an Old Boy of the school and a friend of the patient, noted that so far Rwf 129,000 has been raised and close to Rwf 600,000 in pledges.

"Kagenza’s health is deteriorating by the day and he needs urgent medical attention,” Mandela said.

According to the kidney patient, King Faisal Hospital officials recently said that government can not currently fund such needs until after an unknown period of time.
