RUSIZI – Health workers in Nyamasheke and Rusizi districts have been asked to step up the fight against HIV/AIDS in the two districts. The call was made on Tuesday by Antoine Semukanya, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National AIDS Control Commission (CNLS), while meeting health district officials.

The call was made on Tuesday by Antoine Semukanya, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National AIDS Control Commission (CNLS), while meeting health district officials.
Organised by CNLS, the meeting took place at St Françoise conference hall in Kamembe.It was called to assess the achievements made in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the district.
"You should know that HIV/AIDS is a cross-cutting issue, so I call upon every individual who is in this meeting to go back and sensitise residents in your respective work and residential places to seriously fight against this scourge.
If we fight it from the grassroots that is when we are likely to make progress,” Semukanya urged.
He encouraged CNLS partners in the two districts to make anti-AIDS projects basing on the districts’ needs and always submit reports on their activities on time.
During the same meeting, several CNLS partners in the two districts made brief presentations of what they have done in 2008, 2009 and their projections for 2010.
Semukanya further urged participants to mobilise residents to go for voluntary HIV/AIDS counselling and testing in order to ascertain their health status.
