DMC in the process of drafting a law

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) is in the process of drafting a law that will ensure disaster management in the country.

This was revealed by Chief Supt.  Damas Gatare, the coordinator of the DMC during a two-day workshop that brought together several NGOs,  held at Telecom House on Monday.

"The draft law will include the community policing on disaster management which will ensure rapid response to disasters,” Gatare said.

The workshop organised by Rwanda National Police, was aimed at creating awareness and identifying best practices with regard to procurement procedures and rapid response to disasters.

During the workshop, the stakeholders updated the disaster management policy paper by indicating the roles each stake holder should play.

Man arrested in possession of drugs

Over the weekend, the residents of Muhima cell in Nyarugenge district helped police arrest a man who was allegedly hiding Marijuana in a hole.

Rasta Uwamahoro was arrested with over 10kgs hidden in the hole in his house.

Police spokesperson Eric Kayiranga urged residents to always expose those dealing in drugs in the district to bring down the crime rate especially in the city. 

Rutsiro advisory council visits Rusizi

The Rutsiro district advisory council yesterday visited their counterparts of Rusizi, in the Western Province to witness achievements in the district.

The visit was aimed at learning how Rusizi district has managed to improve in different fields that include rice farming and security.

Kigoma vendors decry high taxes

Kigoma market venders in Huye district are complaining about high taxes levied by the district and calling upon authorities to increase market days in a week. The market venders said the Rwf10, 000 is so high that they cannot afford it.

Ndego, Kabare residents decry market closure

Residents of Ndego and Kabare sectors in Kayonza district along the Tanzanian border are complaining about hiked prices of different commodities which has been caused by the closure of a community market.

According to the residents, the market was closed by the district over dealing in illegal items that included drugs and local alcohol commonly known as ‘Kanyanga.’
