MUSANZE - The United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) yesterday launched a two-day training programme aimed at enabling students to understand their role in promoting justice and reconciliation in Rwanda.

During the workshop  students’ representatives and teachers, drawn from eight schools in Musanze and Rulindo districts will share experiences and views on key government policies such as rule of law, governance, security and human rights.

Different facilitators will also discuss the role of the youth in the fight against Genocide and its ideology, including international justice.

Opening the workshop, Roland Amoussouga, the ICTR Spokesperson said it is part of the out reach activities in Rwandan schools aimed at creating Genocide awareness within educational institutions.

"We in ICTR, believe that together with different institutions represented here, have a big challenge in educating our youths as future leaders to fight against impunity and understand that no one is above the law,’’   he said.

He added that in order to inform the Rwandan population about the role of ICTR in contributing to unity, the tribunal intends to organise more discussions on justice and reconciliation.

The Mayor of Rulindo, Justus Kangwaje, urged students on making proper choices, so as to overcome diseases, poverty and Genocide ideology.
