HUYE - Security personnel need to know the functioning and benefits of the Social Security Fund of Rwanda (SSFR), Moses Kazoora, the in-charge of training and customer care for SSFR, has said. 

Kazoora made the remarks last week while officiating at a one-day sensitisation workshop that brought together SSFR staff and 110 army and police personnel operating in the province.

"Army and police personnel are more exposed to accidents, they need to know how SSFR can help them in case of such accidents like any other contributors to the fund,” he said. 

He appealed for understanding and collaboration between the fund and security personnel especially in case of incidents that require special investigations. 

Kazoora reminded participants that social insurance is a right that every employee is entitled to and an obligation that each employer has to fulfil. 

Participants expressed satisfaction after the seminar. They said that a lot was learnt about the operations of SSFR and how it benefits them.

"This equips us with more understanding on the fund’s responsibility towards insured employees. We now know what to expect from the Fund like retirement benefits or assistance in the event of work related accidents,” noted Lt Désiré Sezikeye of the RDF 301 Brigade. 

Brigadier Gen. Mubarakh Muganga, the commander of the 301 Brigade called upon trainees to spread the message to their colleagues in the lower ranks as a way of increasing understanding on the operations of SSFR.
