TWENTY-FIVE sports federations and associations which constitute Rwanda National Olympic and Sport Committee have been allowed to take part in the body’s Executive Committee election set for December 27.
Initially, all federations were obliged to acquire legal status before taking part in this year’s elections.
However, an extra ordinary general assembly held over the weekend at Laico Hotel approved federations to take part in the elections with or without legal status.
Federations which compose the local Olympic Committee voted for the move to have their respective bodies participate in the event.
Federations, which have heated the elections, have thus shifted focus from acquiring legal status to participating in the elections.
This will be a setback to the local sports whose administrators have fought hard to have federations operate legally.
Meanwhile, all federations will still have to meet the agreed criteria to be able to take part in the elections.
They must have participated in all RNOC’s general assembly and must have paid their annual contributions to the local Olympic body.
