SC KIYOVU head coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira is still upbeat that his side will recover from the loss against Etincelles over the weekend to win the league title this season.
Kiyovu suffered a shock 1-0 defeat away to Etincelles at Umuganda stadium on Saturday.
A second half strike from Ibrahim Mburenumwe sunk the old giants and earned maximum points for Etincelles who have now won their first two matches.
"The goal came as a result of our mistake in defence which gave Etincelles the chance to score.
"Our strikers did their best but the poor shape of the playing surface couldn’t allow us pass the ball as well as we wanted,” noted the former APR and Atraco tactician.
"It’s still early, we will bounce back to keep hopes alive. There are so many matches left, so you cannot count us out of contention for the league title,” Ntagwabira said.
This year’s league title favorites APR and Atraco won their matches on the second day of the season to keep on course for yet another close contest.
The champions beat Marines 2-0 at Nyamirambo stadium. Abbas Rassou scored the opener on 6th minute, tapping in a cross from Albert Ngabo.
Substitute Labama Bokota made sure that the military side attained full maximum points when he headed a perfect cross from fellow substitute Omar Hitimana beating goalie Jean Bigirimana on 67th minute.
The 2008 champions Atraco came from behind to defeat Electrogaz by a 3-1 at Mumena ground.
Jean Lomami, Johnson Bagoole and new signing Bercky Bamuma earned the taxi-men side maximum points.
Mukura’s poor start to the season continued as they were beaten 3-1 by visiting Amagaju at Huye stadium.
Bosco Gasana bagged a brace and Hussein Amani scored another goal to earn Amagaju all points in a hotly contested Southern Province derby. Meddi Kagera scored the consolation goal for the home side.
Musanze were held to a goalless draw by visiting side Police, a result which earned both clubs their first point of the season.
Meanwhile, Rayon Sport were held to a 2-2 draw by AS Kigali in yesterday’s only league match played at Nyamirambo stadium.
