Netherlands’s Matwe Middelkoop pocketed $1500 after crushing Gvidas Sabeckis 7-5, 6-3 in the finals of the Rwanda ITF Men’s Futures that climaxed yesterday at Novotel.

The Dutch man who had not lost a set since the preliminary round continued with his fine form as he crushed his Lithuanian opponent to send a strong warning to his contenders in the Uganda ITF Men’s Futures tournament which unfolds this morning with the qualification round at Lugogo, Kampala.

The tournament’s top seed is a double winner after having teamed up with Sabeckis on on Friday to claim the doubles’ category.

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s Jean Claude Gasigwa has given a fresh go at the Ugandan competition after landing an ITF world card.

Before his departure, Gasigwa said, ‘ things did not go well for me here but i want to give myself a second chance in Uganda.

I want to see what will happen there’.
Dieudonne Habiyambere had also expressed his desires to take part in the Uganda competition but there are doubts he will compete.

‘Habiyambere wanted to take part in this competition but i’m not sure he will because i saw him around on Friday,’ the Rwanda Tennis Federation (RTF) technical director said.
