Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen James Kabarebe’s visit to Sudan, at the invitation of his Sudanese counterpart, attests to the exemplary role the force is playing in the war-torn region.

The CDS’ visit is a reflection of the RDF’s neutrality and professionalism which is needed to stem conflicts on the African continent.

The Darfur crisis is still a major challenge, not just for Africa’s leadership, but also the broader international community.

The region has witnessed a humanitarian catastrophe in which thousands have lost their lives, with thousands others displaced, both internally and externally.

Darfur remains a blight on our collective conscience, calling for action from all who can bring peace to the region.

Rwanda through the RDF is playing its part, earning much accolades for this endevour, not just from the Sudanese themselves, but others in the international community.

It should be recalled that the RDF was among the first  to contribute forces in response to the crisis.

Rwanda has 3,200 troops deployed in Darfur as well 254 in Khartoum.Over 70 staff officers and Military Observers serve under both UNAMID and UNMIS.

The RDF has set the example and the hope is that more countries will contribute troops to ensure a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
