KICUKIRO - Members of Parliament from Kigali City yesterday visited the Gahanga Sector, of Kicukiro district, to explain to their constituents some new legislation. They also sought to find out their problems.

"We are constitutionally obliged to go back to the people who sent us to Parliament and explain to them the new laws that have been passed and also listen to their views on how they want things to be done,” Saidati Mukanoheri, leader of the group said.

She said some voters are sometimes ignorant of the new laws that have been passed, making it imperative for the parliamentarians to regularly visit them and explain in detail what these laws contain.

At Gahanga, the MPs explained to the residents the new land law and the family law.

"I am happy that our representatives in Parliament have come to teach us about these laws. We knew that they had been put in place, but didn’t know the contents,” said Alexander Ngirabera, a resident of Gahanga sector.

After the public lectures on the new laws, residents were given time to air out their views and concerns.

Speaking at the gathering, MP Yvonne Uwayisenga,  said that the views and complaints of the people were very important because they help the legislators make laws that reflect the minds of the people they represent.
