Rwanda is moving in the right direction in the building of a knowledge based economy. This approach is globally and domestically prudent due to its empowering nature whereby people are given the necessary capacity to be resources for their community and nation.

Building a knowledge based economy is not as complex as it is normally perceived.

It entails training the population to do their activities better- so that productivity can be increased. Some government institutions have tried to invest in this but more inclusion is still lacking.

For an economic and social goal like this to be achieved, it has to be holistic in the sense that all people benefit from it but what happens is that the rural populace have, at a certain extent, remained unchanged from their conventional ways of carrying out their activities. If it continues like this the goal won’t be achieved.

There should be well spelt out and vibrant mechanisms for bringing the rural populace on board because, being in the informal sector producing agricultural products, they need to be elevated more than anyone else.
