Editor,
The management of SDV TRANSAMI Rwanda would like to clarify some of the information that was mentioned in the article ’SDV TRANSAMI business drops by 50%’’ published in The New Times edition N° 1930 dated Friday October 9, 2009.
The figures mentioned in the article were based on import containers cleared during the 1st semester of 2009.
The business handled by SDV TRANSAMI Rwanda has a much wider range than simply clearing business on sea freight import; this range included all logistics aspects of Forwarding: - sea and airfreight, handling, trucking and warehousing Business.
The percentage mentioned in the article (50%) to which it is referred is wrong as well as the figures showing the decrease of containers cleared.
2008 /6 months: 1687 Teus( isof 2071 wrongly quoted)
2009/6 months: 1351 Teus
There was a decrease of 25 % on this special trade ( sea freight import clearance ) NOT 50%- which is clearly in line with the decreased volumes of imports showed as a result of the global financial crisis & liquidity crisis in local market during this year 2009.
The management of SDV TRANSAMI Rwanda apologizes for the information that was stated in the article which could mislead the readers into thinking that the whole business of SDV
Transami Rwanda had dropped to such an extent.
