Editor,
I was shocked by The New Times article that I read last week, I cannot remember the exact day, which talked about teenagers who ate only one meal a day; all in the name of losing weight just to look like the skinny models and celebrities.
It’s very common these days for teenagers to miss meals and do funny things like consuming hard liquor thinking it will help in their effort to lose weight. Not being skinny isn’t a crime provided you keep exercising.
Anyway, those tiny models are staying so slim because that’s what their career path dictates. Teenagers don’t have a sound reason for doing this -other than because they want to mimic so-called ‘celebrities’.
Besides, if being a celebrity depended on how thin or fat people are Queen Latifah, the rapper and Oscar-nominated actress wouldn’t be so renowned.
Youth should concentrate on productive things that will develop them and their families other than chasing after celebrity looks.
Besides, all they do, while trying to lose weight, has serious health consequences.
