NAIROBI - At last, the five East African Community heads of state are next month set to the East African Common Market protocol, a function set to coincide with the EAC tenth anniversary celebrations.

The protocol follows intense negotiations among member countries that started in Kigali, the Rwanda capital, in April last year.

When it comes into force next year, the protocol will mean that there will be free movement of goods from one EAC country to another.

Consequently, industries in the region will have to set their sights on serving a larger market comprising over 100 million people and not the erstwhile smaller, ‘divided’ entities.

Tanzanian people will now have to redouble their efforts in their intellectual and economic endeavours.
