KIGALI Volleyball Club (KVC) players have threatened to quit the club after going over three months without pay.
The players, who preferred anonymity, claimed that the club had backtracked on its promise of paying salaries on time on top of paying their tuition fees.

"It’s so ridiculous because my last payment came back in May. The allowances we get can’t even sustain our day to day lives,” one of the players fumed.

"Frankly speaking, the situation is so appalling and sometimes you are forced to question your loyalty to the club.”

The club management is now under pressure. KVC president Epaphrodite Ngendahayo has acknowledged that the club is experiencing some financial difficulties, but refuted reports that players were set to quit.

"This club does not have a stable source of income, and that is some thing our players know very well,” Ngendahayo said.

"The trend has been that we have always given them allowances and paid for their educations since most of them are students,” he added.

After a two-year trophy drought, KVC fans had reason to smile when the club lifted this year’s Coupe du Rwanda after thrashing APR in the final.

KVC also reached the final of the league and Carre d’AS.
