RUBAVU - The second edition of the Reconciliation Week is slated for December with the main focus being support for vulnerable people country-wide, the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) has announced.

The NURC president, Dr Jean Baptist Habyarimana, told The New Times, that the week will offer an opportunity for residents to hold discussions on reconciliation drives and the role of Gacaca courts. 

"We shall be conducting discussions on reconciliation, Gacaca courts closure and helping the poor in our cells,” Habyarimana said, adding that Itorero ry’igihugu is expected to lead reconciliation efforts after the close of gacaca.

"The week will be part of the celebrations to mark ten years of NURC existence, which will be followed by the international conference on reconciliation,” he added. 

He noted that after the end of Gacaca there is need to empower Itorero ry’igihugu to complete the remaining work of reconciliation.

Meanwhile, at the retreat, the participants agreed to monitor 2010 presidential election -purposely to monitor whether candidates follow the principal of unity and reconciliation.
