HUYE - Good education that is useful to the country begins in the family, in which women play a key role, reverend Nathan Gasatura, the Bishop of the Butare Anglican Diocese has said. 

Bishop Gasatura made the remarks while officially opening a three - day workshop for members of the Mother’s Union, last week. 

Florence Gasatura, the president of Mothers Union said the workshop under the theme: "stand up and shine” was aimed at equipping participants with mentoring skills so that they can help other members in the union.  

"We want them to be able to teach others how to build healthy families, providing children with good education and producing children they can provide for,” she said. 

Anonciata Kabega, a participant from Banga Parish in Nyaruguru District, said that the workshop will help her manage her family better.  

"The training will help me build a good relationship with my husband and my children so as to have a peaceful co-existence within our family,” Kabega said. 

Mothers Union is an association of Christian women aimed at promoting families based on Christian teachings. It was founded in 1876 in England and started in Rwanda in 1965.
