MUHANGA - The Papal Nuncio to Rwanda, Bishop Ivo Scapolo, has commended Cite Nazareth School for playing a major role in promoting education of the girl child in the district.

The Nuncio who was in  the company of Ministry of Education officials made the remarks on October 17, while touring projects implemented from the Rwf16million support from the Ministry.

The Catholic-owned school is among the six educational institutions which were rewarded recently for outstanding efforts in promoting the education of the girl child.

"The money has been used to establish various facilities in the school which has boosted the quality of education that we offer,” said the school director, Sister Dorocella Musabyemariya.

Bishop Scapolo promised that the Catholic Church will support the government’s initiative of providing quality education for all.

On his part, Bishop Smargade Mbonyintege of Kabgayi called for increased efforts in the use of English language and for embracing of the one laptop per child initiative .

Solange Mukayiranga, from the Ministry of education, lauded the catholic school for giving equal priority to girls in education.

She also urged parents to respect children’s rights in order to build a bright future for the young within society.

Cite Nazareth School is a Papal initiative meant to promote education for the needy. The school admits children with various backgrounds including those from poor families, orphans as well as children who were affected by the Genocide and HIV Aids pandemic.
