Heavy downfall forced a delayed tee-off on Day one of the 2007 FedEx Open golf tournament yesterday at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante, Kampala. Reports from Uganda indicated that the tee-off which had been scheduled for 9am had been pushed to 1pm.

"We have been forced to alter the program a little bit because of the heavy downfall this morning. We expect to get on with the tournament this afternoon,” Deo Akope, the region’s professional golfers’ captain said.

The professional tournament has attracted nine golfers with Emmanuel Ruterana being the only foreigner. Ruterana who edged the lads during last weekend’s Rwanda Open competition left Kigali on Wednesday and has since been gearing up for this event.

Meanwhile, the event has also attracted South Africa’s based professional lady golfer Norah Mbabazi. According to Akope, the lady golfer turned pro back in 2004 and has since featured on the South African Pro- golfers’ Ladies’ tour.

Shs 2 million (Frw 600,000) is what is to be shared amongst the top five golfers when the two-day competition climaxes this afternoon.
