In a bid to boost the fight against Child, and Gender Based Violence (CGBV) the Rwanda National Police yesterday rolled out a two- day training exercise to capacitate local leaders in dealing with the vice.

The two day exercise, targets 3528 representatives from the existing 1176 anti GBV clubs.

The training that kicked off in Nyarugenge and Kicukiro districts yesterday will be carried out in the Gatsabo district in selected sites that include Jabana, Kinyinya, among others.

Launching the exercise at the Centre de Jeune in Kimisagara yesterday, Head of Community Policing in Kigali city, Sup.  Bosco Rutishisha said local leaders are better positioned to fight this vice if they were equipped with necessary tools.

The workshop will cover issues that include; violence manifestations and identification, laws that exist to prohibit and punish violence as well as the violence reporting levels and systems that are in place within the police department.

"We also want to sensitize people about the importance of evidence and how to handle it carefully so that it can be presented un-tampered to aid prosecution,” Rutishisha said.

Rutishisha called upon local leaders to spearhead the campaign against violence.

"We want to create more awareness about violence, to encourage more reporting. Boost the partnership between police and people so that together we can combat, reduce and prevent crime,” Rutishisha said.
