KAYONZA - Residents of Kabare sector in Kayonza District have collected Rwf6.9 million towards poverty eradication initiatives.

This was disclosed at the weekend during the holding of a local general assembly for the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF).

"This amount collected will help us to come up with our own ‘revolving fund’, for the purposes of fighting poverty” Godance Uwizeyimana, a local leader in the area said.

The Sector Executive Secretary, Gerve Nirenganya, said residents have over time made a series of socio- economic achievements.

"One of the most important thing people have achieved in this place is food security.

As we gather here today, they still have stocks of beans and millet in their homes…the delay of rains is not a threat to them. This is a milestone for us,” he said.

Viateur Sinigenga, the district party secretary reminded the members to abide by the party regulations.

"I gather from the party members that you are happy with your own achievements. RPF has a special call for people to live a meaningful life. That you have managed to succeed by  keeping  to the ideals of the party makes me happy,” he said.

The residents said they have embraced the land consolidation programme as a way of maintaining food security.
