Teachers deserve much, they are parents, it is through their hard work and sleepless nights that all these cherished professions come from.

They teach people who later become their leaders but just forget their efforts that make these leaders who they are.

The President was urging the ministry not to award only those who they think perform better, may those who did not perform as expected had other concerns.

We all agree that teachers are the poorly paid civil servants the world over yet they are as important to any society as doctors.

If they cannot be paid highly like other professions, let there at least be some intensives and benefits from that less considered profession. This may be able to encourage more young people to join the teaching profession.

They work for longer hours; tussle with our unruly children, under-looked in society yet paid less.

Teachers too have responsibilities like other members of society, they have families and would wish to grow rich like any other person, and this may as well distract them from performing as expected.

There is no way one can perform when he/she left a sick child or relative, without enough food, gets lowest and paid late salary.

The president’s plea should be considered and have Rwandan teachers access grants and other financial incentives to supplement their pay and boost their performance.
