The United Nations yesterday opened a photo exhibition at the Union Trade Centre (UTC), in a bid to showcase UN in action under the ‘Delivering as One’ approach initiated in 2008.

The photo exhibition, dubbed ‘a thousand words in a country of a thousand hills,’ is presented in six themes, each of them focusing on an area of the UN operations in Rwanda.

Kicking off the exhibition, UN Resident coordinator, Aurélien Agbénonci, said that the photo exhibition marked the official launch of the UN week observed annually to commemorate the organization’s founding.

"This event is the first of a series off events during the UN Week Celebrations; this exhibition is a small contribution to ensuring that the general public, media, university students, indeed anyone who is interested in development, can get a glimpse about what the UN does in Rwanda.”

Highlighting the need for a people-driven development, Agbénonci reaffirmed his organizations commitment to provide coordinated support to solve prevailing needs in the country.

"This photo exhibition is about the people who are at the very heart of our mission here in Rwanda – ordinary Rwandans who in one way or the other work or deal with the UN to support the development objectives of this country. It gives us a snapshot of the UN from their perspective.” he said

Agbénonci added that the exhibition would also give insight to the different development initiatives going on in the country.

The UN week is celebrated around the world to commemorate the founding of the United Nations on October 24, 1945.
