KIGALI - Rwanda will next week host a three-day United Nations meeting on the response to the challenges of a changing world and test how the UN family can provide development assistance in a more coordinated way.

Rwanda is one of the 8 pilot countries implementing the UN "Delivering as One” initiative, as part of the body’s reform process. The initiative was launched in 2007.

In Rwanda, the progamme is organised around six result areas that include; Governance, Health Population and Nutrition, HIV, Education, Environment and Social Protection and Sustainable Development.

The UN Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, is expected to grace the meeting.

Ahead of the high profile meeting, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, James Musoni, who is also the Chair of the One UN Steering Committee in Rwanda, said that the meeting will provide a platform to take stock of delivering as one.

"This Meeting will help to deepen the reflection that emerged from the 2008 stocktaking exercise of the pilot countries.”

"For Rwandans, Delivering as One has meant that we now have a much clearer overview of all UN activities in our country.”

In the three day conference, participants will exchange experiences and lessons learned during the implementation of the key pillars of the one UN approach that calls for One Programme, One Budgetary Framework, One Leader, One Office and One Voice.

On his part, the UN Resident coordinator ,Aurélien Agbénonci said : "It is clear that Rwanda has played a leading role in the Delivering as One initiative.”

The Kigali meeting will also attract participants from the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, Pacific island nation of Kiribati, Malawi and Papua New Guinea, Angola, Benin and Comoros.
