RWANDA’s Olympic Committee (RNOC) has endorsed Bury St Edmund Leisure centre to host the country’s Olympics and Paralympics teams for the 2012 London Pre-Games training program.
RNOC boss Ignace Beraho said in a communiqué to Bury St Edmunds that it is a brilliant opportunity to create meaningful community driven programs, long term educational links and in turn hope that the people and the neighborhood of Bury St Edmund can adopt Rwanda as their second team for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"Given the necessary time frame over the next three years leading to London 2012 Olympic Games, we hope that by choosing Bury St Edmunds, will be a wonderful event to be remembered and a lasting legacy for many years to come,” Beraho said.
Apart from Rwanda and Bermuda, 14 countries have expressed their interest in pre-Games training opportunities locally.
These include Angola, Azerbaijan, Cayman Islands, Egypt, Gambia, Iran, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malta, Palestine, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.
