HUYE - Opticians from Kabgayi Hospital, in Muhanga District, over the weekend treated several patients with different eye ailments within Huye district.

The specialists treated the patients at the National University of Rwanda’s University Center for Public Health (CUSP), Rango, and Matyazo health centers, and Butare main prison.

Peter claver Ndahayo, an official from Kabgayi Hospital, said the mobile eye clinic is intended to reach out to people in the country side who cannot make it to Kabgayi.

"Many people especially the elderly with eye problems continue to suffer from  their homes because they lack of the means to access treatment. This clinic serves to bring these services closer to them,” said Ndahayo.

Julienne Mukagasana, 64, one of the beneficiaries of the treatment at Rango Health Centre hailed the services provided by the clinic as being affordable.

"I am grateful to the people who organised the clinic, I have paid only Rwf200 for consultations and Rwf1000 for treatment, this is good for us,” said Mukagasana.

Valerie Niyigena, the Director of University Centre for Public Health said that such clinics encourage patients holed up in their homes to come out and seek treatment.

The specialists have conducted such trips in all districts of the province, Huye being the last.
