RWAMAGANA -The Social Democratic Party (PSD) last Sunday elected new leaders for the Eastern Province.
At the party’s General Assembly convened in Rwamagana, a new provincial committee made up of three people was elected.

Francois Tuyisenge, from Gatsibo District was elected the provincial party president, replacing Jean Baptiste Gasana, who had held the position for the last 5 years.  He stepped down, citing personal reasons.

Michel Rustobe and Apolinaria Mujawakigeli were elected deputy and secretary respectively.  

"I know people still wanted me to hold a position with the party, but some personal reasons have compelled me to step down,” Gasana said.

Meanwhile, the new leaders were subsequently sworn in.
After taking oath, Tuyisenge vowed to push the party to its heights with immediate effect.

"I will leave no stone unturned in promoting the party among the people, in villages and towns. There is no time for us to sit and rest, we are going to hit the campaign immediately,” he said.

Lawmaker and PSD national leader, Juvenal Nkusi over saw the elections. Before the elections however, Nkusi cautioned party faithful against corruption and the misuse of public funds.

"We have an issue of corruption that surfaced recently, but has been in our society for ages. No one could mention it due to reasons we all know. We as members of PSD have to fight corruption with all our might. This can be done by exposing all those involved in the vice,” he said.

"We need to prepare PSD members for the forthcoming congress we shall  old, and the decisions that will be taken next year in June. We need to prepare them psychologically,” he emphasised.

Present at the occasion were the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Internal Security, Penelope Kantarama, MPs Atanaziya Nyiragwaneza, Veneranda Nyirahirwa and the Mayor of Ngoma District Francois Niyotwagira.
