Four hundred juveniles appeared  before the courts of law this,  The New Times can exclusively report.

Presenting the Sector review report yesterday, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice; Esperance Nyirasafari, said that thanks to contracted judges and prosecutors, at least 400  children who had been remanded over different crimes had been brought to justice between January and June this year.

"As part of our plan to speed up the number of pending cases, we have managed to hire prosecutors and judges and this has been very helpful,” she said.

Nyirasafari however said that though the Ministry had achieved a lot, the challenges were still many.

"We still have many challenges but we have managed to achieve eleven goals of the fifteen we had set for this year. That’s something to be commended”, she said.
Pointing out the Ministry’s challenges, Nyirasafari said that there was still need for better police stations, which she admitted could do better. 

Nyirasafari added that there was still low progress in incorporating ICT into the day-to-day work of the ministry to make work easier.

The Joint Sector Review report brought together 14 sectors and their donors to assess the progress in achieving the sector objectives and to identify strengths and weaknesses of policy implementation during the January to June mini budget period. 

Nyirasafari  told reporters that the report is also based on the Kivu retreat and EDPRS recommendations.
