The president of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), Jean Baptiste Habyarimana, has called upon students to play an active role in the promotion of unity and reconciliation within their respective schools.

He made the call while presiding over the pass-out of over 800 students who are set to join different public institutions of higher learning and had completed a three-week solidarity camp commonly known as Ingando.  

The students had camped at the Peace and Leadership Centre-Nkumba in Burera district, Northern Province.
Ingando is national civic education programme.

Habyarimana told the students that their role was critical in the future where they will be expected to offer answers to the challenges facing the country instead of being part of the problem.   

"We cannot have sustainable development without guiding agents to bring positive change, and students have a big responsibility of being flag bearers for strengthening peace and unity among Rwandans, ’’ Habyarimana said.

He called upon the students to embrace discipline if they are to achieve their goals.

Habyarimana observed that Ingando helps participants to overcome their past undesirable experiences to build common ways of tackling common problems.
