FERWAFA boss, Brig. Gen Jean Bosco Kazura believes Rwanda’s match with Zambia next month has much to offer in regard to next year’s Africa Nations’ Cup qualifiers.
Asked about the country’s chance of reaching next year’s Angola CAN finals and Rwanda’s clash against Zambia, Kazura said, "It will be a difficult task playing against Zambia but we have to believe that we still have a fighting chance of sneaking through.”
"In Algeria, the players tried their best and we should give them time to recuperate and prepare for next month’s clash,” Kazura said. A 4-0 victory over Zambia is what Amavubi need to progress to Angola.
Rwanda has conceded eight goals and scored one in the third and final qualifying round while Zambia has conceded five and scored two.
Algeria‘s 3-1 victory on Sunday was not enough to secure their ticket to South Africa since Egypt had won their Saturday encounter against Zambia.
The hosts were stunned when Patrick Mafisango Mutesa fired Rwanda in front after 20 minutes but Abdelkader Ghezzal levelled two minutes later.
Nadir Belhadj and Karim Ziani netted the other two goals to earn the Fennecs three points but the race will still go down to the wire.
Algeria has 13 points, three ahead of second-placed Egypt with one match remaining. They also boast a four-goal advantage over the Pharaohs, whom they face in Cairo in their last game.
A 3-0 victory for Egypt will see them progress to the World Cup due to a better goal difference.
If Egypt beat Algeria by a two-goal margin, either a draw or a play-off game will determine the group winners because they will level on goal difference.
Algeria needs to win, draw or lose by a one-goal margin to ensure their World Cup dream.
