GISOZI - The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) on Friday rewarded a group of female students from FAWE School, Gisozi who excelled in the recently completed writing competition on girls’ education.

The competition, designed to unlock the students’ writing potential, as well as encourage them to creatively express themselves on gender based violence had 65 entries.

The ceremony held at the FAWE School premises saw 50 best students receive grammar text books. In addition to this, the top three were given English dictionaries.

Speaking during the event, FAWE monitory and evaluation officer, Patrick Nsenga said that the competition was designed to empower girls to be more critical in analysing issues that affect them which would build them into better leaders.

"We want to motivate these girls to work hard in school and not to fall prey to temptations that end their education prematurely,” Nsenga said.

He added that the competitions were aimed at encouraging excellence as well as sensitizing the public that with motivation, girls could perform as well as boys.

Nsenga encouraged the students to work toward entering other East African competitions that would ensure their competitiveness in the country and the region.

On her part, FAWE School Dean of Students,Elizabeth Ruhumuriza, commended the students for their exemplary writing skills saying that it would help them express and address the problems that are facing them, particularly issues to do with gender based violence.

"By developing skills in writing, you will all be able to communicate the issues and problems prevailing in the society hence helping in rooting them out.”
