Two major projects, Transfer of Knowledge through Expatriate Nationals (TOKTEN) and the Migration for Development in Africa, (MIDA) have been shifted from the Ministry of Labour to that of Foreign Affairs.

The two will fall under the Diaspora General Directorate (DGD) in the ministry.

Robert Masozera, the Director General in-charge of Diaspora Affairs, said the aim of the relocation is to bring about better coordination and enhance the Diaspora’s contribution to the country’s development.

The Ministry says MIDA-Rwanda has the objective of strengthening capacities of public and private institutions, by mobilizing the skills and resources of the Rwandan Diaspora settled in Europe.

On the other hand, TOKTEN which is supported by UNDP aims at supporting socio-economic development: "through transfer of knowledge and technical know-how to Rwanda on the basis of voluntary short term service from highly qualified expatriate Rwandan Nationals from North-America.”

Foreign Affairs Minister, Rosemary Museminali and the Minister of Public Service and Labour, Anastase Murekezi, presided over the projects’ hand over ceremony at MINAFFET headquarters on Wednesday.
